Dare: Listen to a sunset.

I can take this one of two ways.

One, synesthesia. Or for those without sight-to-sound synesthesia, imagining what a sunset would sound like.

Two, listening Momo-style:

Momo listened to everyone and everything, to dogs and cats, crickets and tortoises — even to the rain and the wind in the pine trees — and all of them spoke to her after their own fashion.

Many were the evenings when, after her friends had gone home, she would sit by herself in the middle of the old stone amphitheater, with the sky’s starry vault overhead, and simply listen to the great silence around her.

Whenever she did this, she felt she was sitting at the center of a giant ear, listening to the world of the stars, and she seemed to hear soft but majestic music that touched her heart in the strangest way. On nights like these, she always had the most beautiful dreams.

Those who still think listening isn’t an art should see if they can do half as well.

–Michael Ende, Momo

I’ve listened to many a sunset that way, and it is always worth it. I don’t even have to be able to see the sunset to listen to it in that manner, which is good because unlike my last apartment (which offered a stunning view of Lake Champlain and the mountains beyond, with amazing sunsets every single night) I can’t see the sunset from my window. Plus my bed faces away from the window now, which is already making a noticeable improvement in my migraines.

Anyway, most of the time these gum wrappers are kind of silly in their truth or dare suggestions, but I really like this one. There’s a lot of sensory-oriented questions and dares, because the thing you can supposedly win if your gum package has the right number on it, is one of several “multi-sensory adventures”, like the Northern Lights. This may be my favorite dare so far.
