Goodbye, Father
I dropped a rock
Into the world’s deepest lake
Turned and walked away
Until I dropped that rock
Never had I said goodbye
[This is also published on my main poetry blog, which has a comments section and also a picture of me and my father from our final Skype session. My father is still alive, but it’s getting harder to communicate with him, so I said goodbye while he was still lucid enough to understand it, by writing him a letter. Never in my life has anything felt so final.]
