“The world owes me a lovin’
For all of my wasted time
Somehow it don’t seem right
The world owes me a lovin’
Cause I ain’t never had none
And here I am alone again tonight”

—

Okay dude, I don’t care if your voice reminds me of my dad’s in some ways. These lyrics are terrible. And they’re not even as terrible as the “My Cherokee mother fell in love with a man who was killing Indians and committed suicide when he died in the Cheyenne war, because she had promised to folllow everywhere he went, and let’s insert some psedo-Native-American-"spiritual” imagry just because we can" song.

UGGGH.

This is the worst thing about having no language comprehension growing up. You become extremely attached to the sound of a song, without understanding a single word of it (literally not understanding the words, not just ‘taking them literal’ or something). When a song goes from “this song has an amazing set of instrumentals and vocals and everything even though I can’t make out a single word or even know that words are a thing, and it’s etched into my head as pure beauty” to “OMG he’s romanticizing genocide” in one case and “he’s doing that guy thing where they think the world owes them sex” it’s a wee bit of a shock.
