i am a musician

cuttlefishculler:

because the only time when the world is quiet
is when i am drowning them out
with deep vibrato or an augmented sixth,
shocking like tenor falsetto,
loud as my body can push it to.

because the bend of my arm is soft memory
peppered with applause, feathering
off into silence as i glow
off the stage and into the clouds themselves.

because without it, i wilt.
because it ceases the roaring emptiness.
because with it, i am not lost.
