In the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), they don’t believe in taking oaths.
This is because they believe that there shouldn’t be a special kind of words that are more honest than others. All words should be equally honest, according to them.
I don’t know that I fully agree with them. But I have to admire the sentiment. Hard and fast rules like that are too confining for me, that’s why I’m chaotic good and not lawful good. I always feel like there’s situations where lying is best… of course so do a lot of Quakers.
But I still think that’s a cool idea, at least in theory.
