I have blocked disabledableism

Because she thinks her status as a real (read: skinny) disabled person is threatened by fat people receiving proper treatment for cancer. I just lost my dad to cancer. My “second mother” only started radiation last week because I had a bunch of tumblr users call the hospital demanding she not be discriminated against by size. Before that, they had condemned her to death from a very treatable form of cancer, by refusing radiation, chemo, and surgery, on the grounds that she was fat and therefore must have tons of medical conditions she doesn’t have.

Equating that to “my doctor won’t give me pain meds because my pain is caused by being fat” is so fucking insulting I can’t even. I just lost my dad to cancer that may have been picked up fast enough to save him if he were skinny. I am not losing another loved one to cancer because she’s fat, not without a fight. She had to actually bring dumbbells into the doctors office to prove she exercises vigorously and that her cardiovascular system is in good health. She had to prove she could breathe properly, too. They initially assumed she had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. when a cursory look at her chart shows she doesn’t. Her oncologist assumed without asking that she used a powerchair due to obesity. She uses it because she has had severe scoliosis that was corrected improperly in childhood and now has two dislocated vertebrae and flat back syndrome, multiple torn ligaments and tendons due to autoimmune disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Fun fact: I know lots and lots of powerchair users. We tend to be either fat or skinny, very few medium sized. Not because we use the chair because we are fat. But because we can’t exercise enough. So either we get fatter, or we have a disease that artificially keeps us thin. Generally.

This is what I meant when I said fat people die due to medical negligence. Just like disabled people (especially DD and psych), women, people of color, trans people, and old people. Don’t believe me? RTFM. But don’t come into my threads about my loved ones dying of cancer and shit all over them/their memory in the name of maintaining your stupid bloated ego as one of the Real (Skinny) Disabled People that fat disabled people give a bad name for trying to survive. Oh you poor thing it must be so hard for you to share the label “disabled” with people who are dying of medical neglect in the face of some of the most easily treated cancer on the planet. So much worse than being the ones actually dying of medical neglect. People like you are why some fat people won’t even see a doctor, not even if they’re dying.

And don’t fucking call me an SJW, I can’t stand that subculture (or its equally evil twin, the anti-SJ subculture). Caring about medical discrimination does not an SJW make.

Just RTFM and get off my lawn.
