➸ Little Girl in RED (autistic history)
Mary Margaret’s old website. Few remember her now but she was a contributor to Women from Another Planet and wrote the book In Their Hearts: Inspirational Alzheimer’s Stories which is way better than the title makes it sound. She worked on an Alzheimer’s unit as a chaplain because she could relate to people with dementia as “cousins” – she never used that word but what she described meant the same thing. I understand what she means because people with dementia often make more sense to me than nondisabled people do. Other people often see empty shells, MM and I both saw people we could relate to. She also, like me, saw inanimate objects as alive in their own way. I only wish she’d written more.
