Thoughts on Finding Myself Differently Brained (Autistic history: Jane Meyerding, 1998-2002)

This, along with Don’t Mourn For Us, was one of the first articles I read by an autistic person about being autistic.  Note that since the original was written in 1998, there’s some terminology that wouldn’t be acceptable to most people now.

By the way, Jane now has an official diagnosis.  Just like a lot of people who self-diagnosed.  (I remember reading an article in the MAAP that basically railed against Jane for having the “privilege” to self-diagnose, and it made a lot of wrong assumptions about her.  It would’ve been laughable if people weren’t taking it seriously.)

Jane Meyerding also has a homepage here.
