How to make homemade breastforms

Just some resources for my transfeminine/trans women followers!

It’s interesting because as a transguy I don’t even know what transgirls have to go through in order to pass.

That’s because neither do most trans women because of transmisogyny. There are no resources for us. Trans men get access to resources and support that we do not.

I haven’t even realized that before. Thank you for opening my eyes to this issue. It’s very sad though. I mean… I don’t even know what to say. Definitely reblogging every time something that might be useful for trans women shows up on my dash!

cool that is a good thing to do. also i would appreciate it if you would submit them to tuckingandotherskills as well so we can get the word out!

HEY YEAH this is a thing - trans men get binder giveaways and feminist sex stores that cater to their needs. they get trendy top surgery fundraisers and art shows and shit. i mean THESE ARE ALL GREAT THINGS. but “resources for trans* people” needs to stop meaning “resources for trans* masculine folks”! OK THAT IS ALL CARRY ON AND THIS POST IS ALSO GREAT.

reblogging this here because it is SUPER useful and i think i have some followers that would appreciate it!

All the trans ladies I know are lovely people. I get so frustrated seeing the one-sided support for trans individuals.

I think the lack of emphasis on trans women is, uh, kind of limited to Tumblr. And it’s also recent. Things have really changed in the eleven years since we’ve been reading about trans stuff online.

This was not the case several years ago (as in seven to ten years ago). Most of the resources out there were for trans women. There wasn’t much for trans guys or non-binary people out there in comparison back in 2003 when we started reading trans-related stuff.

The emphasis on trans men and their needs is super-recent. As in, no more than five years ago did trans men become this visible in comparison. Most of the online and in-person groups were either for trans women specifically or tended to have a majority of trans women. Like the Transsexual Roadmap run by Andrea James and Calpernia Addams. Susan’s Place (a forum for all trans people, but mostly used by trans women). Annie Richards’s Second Type Woman. Antijen, which is/was a mailing list run by a trans woman for young trans people, but most of the people there were trans women. Becky Allison and her transition resources. Anne Lawrence and her medical site (she’s a promoter of the ‘autogynephilia’ theory, and is unpopular with a lot of trans people these days, but her site was used as a resource). Gianna Israel. Lynne Conway. Gwen Smith. Even Jennifer Reitz’s clusterfuck of a website, transsexual.org with her bullshit COGIATI test - but it was still used as a resource. A bunch of those sites are really kind of traditionalist, but that’s generally what we saw. What we found for trans guys was The Transitional Male, some personal Geocities sites and a site advertising Loren Cameron’s Man Tool (an ebook about gender-confirming surgery for trans men). Hudson’s Guide was newish back in 2006, if I recall correctly. There were Andy’s FTM (that’s what they were called!) passing tips. There was a bunch of ageism and most resources for trans youth back then were for young trans women. We actually read a lot of sites for trans women because a) they were more numerous and b) a lot of them had information that could be applied to any trans person, like name changes, since a lot of the trans male sites were either personal pages or more about surgery than mental health, self-care or legal issues, which were just as important to us when we were first dealing with the reality of us needing to transition.

Most trans people in the mainstream media before 2009 or so were white trans women. Not trans women of colour and not trans men, whether white or MoC. Caroline Cossey, Christine Jorgenson, Renée Richards, Jan Morris, Calpernia Addams.

This isn’t a defence of trans-male-centric online resources here on Tumblr, but I’m just saying that it used to be different. I think that part of it is because of transmisogyny, and I think that another issue is that there were established online communities where trans women (especially older ones) congregated, like Susan’s Place, whereas trans men and AFAB genderqueer/non-binary peopel tended to use the blogging sites like Livejournal, then moved to Tumblr.
