basically emotional manipulation and guilt tripping as social justice praxis is pointless and not sustainable imo. it doesn’t promote real growth or solidarity if the entire basis of your activism is stemming from guilt or fear

But it’s not just kids. It’s a toxic culture pressed hard by adults. Can’t blame this on teenagers.

In fact, I’ve never gotten the amount of crap from teenagers that I have from adults.  Possibly because teenagers are less sure of themselves, they’re still forming their identities. Adults are more sure of ourselves, but we’re not necessarily any more correct.

I remember being driven close to suicide when Mouth Magazine told us all that if we were not in San Francisco at this one ADAPT action then we didn’t care about disability rights, institutions, or housing issues.  Totally neglecting to point out that people who are directly involved in theee issues may not have the time or energy or spoons to go to an action, much less risk our lives (if arrested, access to medications often doesn’t happen).  I remember reading that issue of Mouth at a time when it was all I could do to get a sandwich from the fridge and eat it, and here were all these people I looked up to, telling me I was lazy and unmotivated.
