I almost cried.

Because I was looking through my dad’s old response to some of my poetry.  And I found this:

Words are just a carrier wave. Yep, but when combined in the special way that you have with them, I would leave out the word “just”. Thanks for what you have written. You have jogged my memory in a very good way. Thanks for the memories.

Blockhead

It’s the “Blockhead” that got me.

It’s an old family joke – “Chip off the old blockhead”.  So I’d call him and he’d say “Howdy Chip!” and he’d sign things “The Old Blockhead”.

Of course all his kids are chips off the old blockhead in different ways.  Knowing more about the inner shape of Ron now, I can see how my brothers are connected to him.  The same way Anne’s three cats… I saw a few-second video of their mother and that was all it took to see all three kittens in them.

The funny thing is, people often decide I look “so much more like my mom than my dad” or “so much more like my dad than my mom”. I think I look like both, but people focus in on different features.  They do that whether it’s appearance, personality, or what.

The older I get, the more I see me and my brothers in both of our parents.
