as small as a world and as large as alone

Remember that box of oyster mushrooms I was growing? I didn’t just want to eat, I wanted to try propagating it. I know its not a great photo, but do you see that frosty white powder on top mushroom? That’s living mycelium that I’m trying to grow.

With the crudest tools and in a barely sterilized environment, I skinned off the shrooms and sandwiched them between two sterilized sheets of soaked corrugated cardboard. I placed the cardboard in a styrofoam box and protected inside a ziplock bag. Did my best to maintain the room temp above 60 and keep it in a low light location. To my shock, with in days, the mycelium took off running across the cardboard. Every couple of days I added coffee grinds from the morning’s brew to build up the spawn.

So now the medium looks pretty well saturated with the mycelium…I don’t know what else to do now. I poked a few holes and am now just impatietly waiting for pinning to occur. Fruit god dammit!

Any advice people?

hqcreations has been through the whole process of not only growing mushrooms from a kit, but also propagating the mycelium and continuing to cultivate them outside of the kit.
