Pet peeve #21934

When people critique a movie based on real people, for not being realistic enough.

Case in point:  Mozart and the Whale.  Jerry, the guy the main character was based on, said that they got Isabel (his girlfriend in the movie) perfect.  That she acted exactly like his (like him, autistic savant) girlfriend did at the age she was in the film.

But that’s not good enough for some people.  They don’t like that autism isn’t her only diagnosis, or even her most severe diagnosis.  They want her to have only one thing, when that’s rarely how life works.

And.   Seriously.  To take a portrayal of a real live person and say “She doesn’t look autistic enough” is just obnoxious.  It reminds me of being on the news and watching people argue over whether I was too high functioning to be representative, or too low functioning to be representative.  *headdesk*
