Jesse L. Martin Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Fund 1860s-Set Fable, 'The Letter Carrier'

clatterbane:

Jesse L. Martin has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a film he wrote the script for, and will co-direct, along with Rick Cosnett. The end product will be a short film; so this is not a feature film project. Although many features start out as shorts first.

Titled “The Letter Carrier,” inspired by a scary story Martin’s grandmother used to tell him when he was a child, the film, set in 1860, centers on a mother who hides her family from slavery in the Blue Ridge Mountains - a mountain range located in the eastern United States, stretching from Georgia, in the south, to Pennsylvania, in the north. The children have grown up with a tale of a man known as The Letter Carrier. As the legend goes, he roams the mountains looking for children to sell as slaves.’

This sounds interesting. But, that story from his grandmother sounds like it’s based off a lot of real history.

I hope the project reaches its funding goal.
