 Educate me

bloodpuppet:

okay, so I want someone to educate me here since I don’t get somethings….I genuinely don’t understand so please don’t be a dick.

It’s about gender neutral clothes. Now before anybody gets their panties in a bunch and think “wtf, is she stupid or something? how does she not get this?”, let me…

I think it’s a legitimate conflict between how people experience and express their gender, and there isn’t any easy answer.  Everyone wants an easy answer, and because we’re human, we all want the easy answer to be the one that fits our own identities.  But because humans are complicated, there can’t ever be an easy answer.

I’m genderless.  I really dislike when anyone attributes gender to my clothing, or to anything else about me.  But I know people (both trans and cis) who very much enjoy wearing gendered clothing and seeing their clothing as gendered in a particular way.

I know no possible way to solve this problem.  Last time I even tried to discuss it as a problem, I got jumped on from all sides.  But it is a problem, and it isn’t going to easily go away just by declaring it a non-problem or by coming up with a solution that only helps some people.  (And then, often, saying that the people left out by that solution are doing something horrible by pointint out they are left out. No matter who they happen to be in that particular discussion.)
