What Are the Difficulties of People With ASDs When Navigating the Rented Housing Market?

nicocoer:

myautisticpov:

Hey, so I’ve narrowed my dissertation down to the above question and I was wondering if anyone had any stories of issues they’ve had with rented housing.

Let me know.

paperwork, uncertainty that the landlord would understand, difficulty figuring out what is acceptable to have on my porch, uncertainty how to negotiate noise levels and communication with other renters in the duplex. (additional ptsd issues with hypervigilence, particularly noises and adjusting noise levels to “not bother anyone”) outside of the porch and the paperwork, thoiugh, no confrontations.

When I was younger I tried to rent a room from a woman. When she found out I was autistic, she refused to rent to me, saying she had a young child at home I could hurt. Thanks, Rain Man.
