Read two books by mostly a parent of an autistic person with some bits by the autistic person
Read because of the autistic person bits but.
The first one was disturbing because.
There were three kids in the family.
One was autistic and nonverbal. She was the focus of the book.
One was autistic and verbal. He was barely mentioned.
One was nonautistic. They might as well not have existed for all they were mentioned, ever.
The second book also had three kids, one of whom was autistic and nonverbal and the focus of the book. But you heard enough about the two nonautistic kids that it was clear they existed and matter in their own right.
That first book really creeped me out though. Especially how the verbal autistic kid was totally glossed over as if he barely existed, so his nonverbal sister could get all the attention basically. Like even in a book about autism he was made invisible.
