Why is ADHD regarded as something that can’t fluctuate/flare? It’s acknowledged that neurochemical things related to mood can. But cognitive disorders getting better or worse isn’t talked about nearly as often unless it’s something that’s known to be progressive, and I’ve seen people outright saying ADHD can’t get more significantly impairing unless something like depression is mixed in.

probably because it’s associated with childhood and people don’t think of children as having internal experiences and stuff

People think the same of autism even though autistic people’s abilities are NOTORIOUS among both parents and professionals for changing unpredictably in both directions. But when autistic people discuss such changes they call us liars, fakers, hypochondriacs, or even (and sadly I heard this from an autie speaking of aspies) hysterical.
