Sometimes i imagine katniss getting out of panam only to find the rest of the world is totally fine. Sometimes i imagine she makes it out to some other country with peeta and theyre both totally wracked with grief and ptsd and they find out that president snow is a meme in the rest of the world that theres youtube videos of his speeches edited together to say “im gay gay gay and i love murder” while cat music plays in the background sometimes i imagine that the rest of the world makes bread puns about panam while it burns and then i wonder what life is like for people who crawl out of north korea knowing that everyone theyve ever known is going to be executed because they ran. I read somethinng once by a north korean refugee who talked about how when he escaped he thought the south koreans were lying to him when they taught him about the history nk had lied about, how the war started and the executions and what life was like in other countries. Sometimes i think about surviving shit like that and finding out nobody takes that kind of suffering seriously in the rest of the world and we love to pass around memes about north korea and russia and even now still fucking hitler like i just. Maybe im being overdramatic or im overstepping my bounds into the territory of white saviourism and if so im sorry but every time i see a “lmao putin banning memes is funny” post all i can think about is when i was living in china and the olympics were in russia the THINGS i heard about being done and the things i heard had been done in beijing for those olympics and i think about gay propoganda laws and how trans people cant drive and i just- it makes me uncomfortable. I dont think shit like this is funny.
