Here’s a large relief print that’s taken several months to create.
In order to make this print I had to carve five separate images for the
five different colors you see. There are a number of things
printmakers carve in, but for this I used Sintra, which is a thin pvc
material used mostly for indoor signs.   Once
carved, ink is rolled on top of the block, transferred to paper by
running it through a press, then hung to dry. After the ink has dried,
the next block is inked up and layered on top of the previous color. This
is the first print I’ve done with a gradient fade in it. It’s a lovely effect, but man, does it take a long time to get right. The
bats are nectar drinking bats from Arizona: the Mexican Long-Tongued
Bat (the one near the flowers) and long-nosed bat (the one against the
moon). The flowers pictured are from the organ pipe cactus, saguaro
cactus, and agave. Stats:This is five block relief print cut out of Sintra, a PVC type material. The image size is 29’ x 21.5 (.5" margins)Paper size is 30"x 22.5"Printed on Rives BFK with Caligo Safe Wash Oil based inksedition size: 9.
