When you return to God after a long time away, He doesn’t judge nor keep score. In fact, it’s His very acceptance that will restore you back to intimacy again. His very grace heals you back to Himself.

I actually find the idea of God judging me really helpful.

Because there’s no hiding from God — and also no *need* to hide from God.

There is a way forward. And evasiveness makes everything harder and facing up to things is the hardest thing in the world but — God already knows. And God will not be broken by anything we’ve done or abandon us over anything.

And that means a lot to me. In ways I don’t know how to explain.

I don’t think that either of the above ideas is actually contradictory, FWIW.

I took the first one as saying, you can always come back, no matter what you’ve done, and you won’t be permanently exiled to some kind of hell because of it.

And the second as saying, God does actually judge you and that’s useful and important.

And those two things coexist.

(I don’t believe in a personal God, so I don’t really know what language to use around this, which is part of the problem.  Like, I’ll reblog something using someone else’s religious language, because I can’t say what I mean myself, and then someone responds in a way that sounds contradictory to the first thing but – in my own worldview, at least – isn’t contradicting it, at least not the part of it I was reblogging it for.  Because I agree with both the above sentiments, almost totally, and see no actual contradiction other than the language used.  It’s taken me this long just to be able to write this much, in language, because all of this is discussing things that (a) exist outside of language and conceptualization, for me, and (b) are coming from people in two religions I’m not part of, which makes the language issue even harder, even though I’m pretty sure the underlying experiences we’re describing are not things that are necessarily separated by what religion you are, or I wouldn’t be reblogging them in this context to begin with.)

Agreed. I was adding not contradicting.

Oh good that makes more sense then.
