mugglebornandraised:

Kids born between 1995 and 1998 are interesting because they fall somewhere between Gen X and Millenials cause they grew up on the tail end of left over 90s stuff but also were right there at the beginning of the 2000s and all that tech and innovation. They don’t really identify with, like, Nirvana being the voice of their generation, but they still hold onto the 90s nostalgia and remember a time before widespread Internet and dial up. 9/11 is like a distant memory but the ramifications are just an accepted part of life. They remember a time before iPhones and the economic collapse but much of the pop culture is too old for them. They’re an interesting transition group of kids that don’t really fit perfectly into either group. I just think that’s really interesting.

(I’m not quite sure why this post popped up as stuff I’d be interested in, but it did.)

I’m not necessarily thrilled with the division of people into easy generations and stuff.  But even the most extreme versions of generation X that I’ve ever heard of, don’t extend beyond people born in maybe 1983.  I was born in 1980 and I’m considered right on the border between Gen X and Millennial (if pressed I tend to say I’m on the tail end of Gen X, but that may be due to personal circumstances).  I have never heard of Gen X extending to people born in the nineties at all.  And certainly anything after 1985 is Millenial/Gen Y/whatever territory in every definition I’ve heard.  (And some people put it as far back as 1977 or so – there’s no firm agreement because these are artificial divisions that mostly apply to particular cultures.)
