My brain on pneumonia

• Lucy: "Will you feel well enough to see the-mmmm-nmmm this weekend?"
• Me: "No, and I hate it! I'm sick of being sick!"
• Lucy: "I understand, the [white noise]; I'll see if I can get James to go, since it will be easier to watch the kids with two people."
• Me: "What is this?"
• Lucy: "The Minion Movie."
• Me: "Oh. I didn't want to see that, anyway."
• Lucy: "[white noise]"
• Me: "I'm sorry. It's like we have a bad phone connection even though you're right in front of me. I can only hear half of what you say."
• Lucy: "Oh."
• [Later]
• Lucy: "You fainted."
• Me: "Say something that my brain will fill in blanks with. Talk about food."
• Lucy: "Well, we have oatm[white noise]."
• Me: "We have oatmeal."
• Lucy: "Was that all you heard?!"
• Me: "Yes. Actually, I heard oatm."
