the thing is–a lot of Bootstraps you’re-just-being-lazy, in the event of a crisis you will suddenly gain the skills you are lacking in everyday life once you cease being coddled rhetoric is *true* for me, to some degree? i *can* do those things in a crisis, i can do things beyond my normal scope of abilities the way, you know, a mother can lift a car if her child is trapped under it. but you would not see that and assume “oh, this mother has the strength to lift cars, she must be able to lift this amount of weight every day.” you would attribute it to adrenaline. this can also happen with disabled people but it does not look as ~*~incredible as a woman lifting a multi-ton vehicle, it often looks like something most people would consider not a greatly energy-exerting exercise. so people assume the disabled person can do it on the daily, when the expenditure is about on par with lifting a fucking car.
