➸ Just To Type: Where do I fit?
I’ve been thinking more about what I said in this post about not feeling like I fit into the social model of disability very well because of the nature of my disability. I’ve been thinking that I may have been wrong. These thoughts are only half-formed, and I’m hoping writing this post will help…
I’m not the biggest fan of the social model as currently defined (but that’s because it doesn’t go far enough). But the medical model is very different than getting medical treatment. The medical model is based around the idea that disabled people are fundamentally defective and that medical professionals ought to have all the power in our lives, with their views being reality and our viewpoint barely considered. So wanting something to be treated medically is a far cry from using the medical model.
Oh and I have severe chronic migraines too. And I can think of little to nothing good about them. Although I know a guy who does say good things about his.
