“I don’t need to be realistic – I’m real.”
—Me, when boggling in disbelief at people saying the way I behave or the way my brain works wasn’t “realistic” enough (read: enough like stereotypes and TV shows) for them.
I said this long before I saw the page Reality Is Unrealistic on TV Tropes. Basically, people’s ideas of reality are so heavily influenced by stage conventions on TV and the movies, that they’ll look at something real and call it unrealistic if it doesn’t match the stage conventions. Mind-boggling but true.
