No, I don’t tag trigger warnings, stop asking me.

Wow. You are so edgy. I bet your mom sometimes sends you up to bed when you’re only halfway done with supper sometimes. Maybe sometimes you…

I’ve meant to reblog and comment on this one since I first saw it.

Yes there are many good reasons people have for choosing not to do trigger warnings.

One of mine is that some of the most triggering things on the Internet for me, coincide with common statements made by a large subgroup of people who insist  on Trigger Warnings Or Else.

And I don’t think most of the people who say such things would even be capable of following what triggers me and why, let alone warning me about them.  In fact, in many cases if a person understood why something was triggering to me they likely wouldn’t say it in the first place, just due to the nature of the topics and the reasons for the triggers. And by trigger I don’t mean just get a little upset, I mean major effects on functioning.  It’s not a word I normally use but it’s in this conversation so I did.

Another is… I used to put warnings on stuff a lot.  I eventually realized that by putting warnings on some things, I was making an implicit statement that my remaining writing wouldn’t be triggering. I realized that statement was false as well as causing problems for people with less common or well-acknowledged triggers. (Like, oh, actually, me.)

There are other reasons too but those are the only two I can articulate.  Although I think I only half articulated the full reasons on the first one. The rest I don’t know how to say but I know what I mean.

And, like, that might make a difference in terms of someone’s comfort level with putting up a warning, but it might not....
