Steve Sillett (et al) mapped Iluvatar (a Tolkien reference) a very large, old redwood tree. The way that these trees grow is fascinating! See how some of the branches ‘fuse’ back into the main trunk:

In case you’ve never heard of this – this is all one tree. This is that iteration process I showed with the Mother Tree, taken so far that there’s over 200 trunks that are all the same tree.
