[Photo of a room full of people at tables.]
The art place was really full today. Which always adds extra exhaustion.
I don’t really interact often. Which is fine. I like being around other people with developmental disabilities (hard to explain other than that it’s a break from people who Don’t Get It and see us as inferior) but often in such situations it’s enough to be there.
But when it’s this many people, usually talking up a storm, it gets a bit much. I don’t complain because for a lot of people this is their only social outlet. Usually I either sit in the corner and tune out, or listen but not react.
Today the bulk of the conversation was a guy saying that he loved his girlfriend (except saying it a new way each time) and two guys telling each other jokes. It is a serious relief to be somewhere where people can openly date each other and not be prevented from it or told it’s inappropriate.
(Indeed, at one of the dances, they tried to actively find a woman for me to dance with. With hilariously awful results. Our personalities and dance styles clashed badly. I was doing some kind of freeform swirly-armed thing and she was doing some kind of bouncy chirpy thing with a side of “why don’t you bounce and be chirpy too?” Both of us were rapidly nonplussed and went back to dancing alone.)
At any rate, I survived it even though it was way too crowded to be comfortable. Two kittens who keep showing up in my paintings showed up again today. Twice. So that was good. And worth going there for despite what it seems to do to my brain. :-/
