[Too-dark photo of a DVD case next to a laptop screen. The DVD case is National Geographic: Climbing Redwood Giants. The laptop screen shows a butt-view of a guy (probably Steve Sillett) climbing a huge redwood.]

OMG.

If you have even a little interest in redwoods this movie is amazing, try to get your hands on it.

I’m not even done and what I’ve seen so far is worth it. Even a few minutes is worth it but then I’m obsessed at the moment. They have these ultra-close-up views of the salamanders that spend their whole lives in the canopy, and just all kinds of cool stuff both in the trees and out.

Also seeing the outcome of the 1999 and earlier Headwaters protests on here, I feel amazed to have played even the teeny little role I played. (Going up there, taking photos, doing interviews, and presenting the information to any interested person who walked through the main courtyard of my community college.) That we managed to save those groves is just… wow. That made all the fucked up parts of my environmental studies class (environmentalists tend to be obscenely disablist for some reason, and our teacher was no exception, so I learned virtually nothing), as well as the tension of the travel (me and my mom yelling at each other the whole car ride because I kept shutting down too bad to do homework) worth it. And that’s nothing compared to what the tree sitters went through… that’s serious dedication.

But anyway seriously recommend the movie. Fey is here snuggling while I watch it. I keep crying and having to stop the movie.
