I hope other people don’t assume this is a general autistic thing. Of course, they will – people always generalize when one of us says anything about ourselves, and this fits well with what people imagine all autism to be.
If it were me, I’d say I substituted sensory, and to some extent emotional, complexity for intellectual complexity. (Most of what looks like intellectual complexity is my attempt to translate patterns of sensory information. Keeping in mind that by “patterns” or “sensory thinking” I mean something utterly different – waaaay less symbolic and visual – than when Temple Grandin says it.)
