codeman38's tumblings: You know what would be cool?

An autistic cooking blog.

Recipes, stuff about overcoming executive functioning issues re:cooking and doing dishes, probably some beginner cooking techniques in general, food stuff of that sort.

I would very much be interested in this.

My main problems with cooking tend to be with…

I can attest to what coordination issues can do to a person’s cooking. I have witnessed my friend dump boiling water on her lap. Not just once but many times, and gotten burns over large parts of her body because of it. (She’s also in a wheelchair.) And once, this was absolutely horrible… she was cooking sugar to make flan or something like that. And you know how hot sugar gets when it’s in a pan on the stove. And somehow she got it on her hands. And I was listening to her scream “WATER! WATER! TOO LATE! SKIN COMING OFF!” while I tried to run to the bathroom for water. (Which I did in slow motion because of my own movement disorder.) I oddly enough have much better coordination than her, since my movement disorder happens at a completely different spot in the chain reaction that creates a movement. So I can be coordinated a lot of the time but I freeze up and have trouble stopping, switching, and combining movements. And she finds it at least easier than I do to do those things, but she’s the most clumsy person I’ve ever met. We make an interesting team.

I can’t cook at all for some reason. I can bake, if I have the energy to do it. But I can’t cook to save my life. The most I can do – only sometimes – is nuke something.
