What I have been trying to teach myself, with only partial success, is that being functional will in all likelihood mean not seeming functional. It’s a peculiar and necessary tradeoff— for me, right now.

Also appearing functional (to people with fucked up perceptions of what functional means) is something I can’t even usually perceive. So there’s no way I’d know how to do it anyway. There was a time I thought I was an expert at it but people who knew me then say otherwise. So all that energy I was putting into it went ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOWHERE. Total waste.
