Dolphins are ‘people’ say scientists

thegoddamazon:

ethiopienne:

Dolphins deserve to be treated as non-human “persons” whose rights to life and liberty should be respected, scientists meeting in Canada have been told.

A small group of…

And also there’s the fact that a lot of philosophical definitions of personhood that have been created for animal rights, deny certain (disabled) human beings our personhood by definition. So that some of us become human nonpersons and people it is okay to kill. (No really this happens.) So a lot of disabled people, as well as people of color, become quite nervous when people start acting on these definitions. And yes, there are ways of working for the rights of animals without this bullshit, but I’ve never seen a large-scale animal rights group manage it. As for PoC not being chased around and killed for no good reason? What about any of the recent wars the USA has been involved in? Seriously. And that’s besides a lot of other policies (like, oh, the continuing genocide of indigenous people, just for one) that amount to the same thing. FFS.
