[Picture shows Coraline, a grey striped tabby cat with wide orange-amber eyes, looking down from an orange (the citrus fruit) tree she has climbed.]
I think Cora is the only cat here I haven’t written specifically about yet. So I’m posting what is probably my favorite picture of her ever. She (and the other three) are mostly indoor cats but occasionally I let them out to play in the garden for a while. Cora is especially fond of these back-yard adventures. My partner was the one who actually named her, because as a kitten she was just so obviously so bold and so clever (like the Neil Gaiman character Coraline).
I always imagine she sees the world as this massive Rube Goldberg contraption, the way she looks around as if she’s computing distances and trajectories (and then following through to test her calculations by jumping on objects, etc., to get to the highest point within view). She has always been quite the experimentalist too; when she was around 10 weeks old I found her literally partway up the chimney (sitting on the flue, which I of course promptly closed). I have to be careful bending down (e.g., to pick something up) if she’s about because she will sieze any opportunity to jump up on my back and try to sit on my neck (purring the whole time).
She gets along well with both her brothers (Shadow and Brodie) and recently even she and Nikki have been caught actually playing together (which was awesome to see — she and Nikki are both so strong-willed, initially there was a lot of clashing). And now I will post this because I have to get off the train meaning no wifi until I get home.
I love that photo too. Not only is she being so intensely Cora, and not only does it show her amazing eye color, but her eyes almost match the fruit!
