I am so glad that as a wheelchair user I’ve never had trouble, no matter which bathroom I go into, because nobody wants to look straight at me long enough to care. Because otherwise throughout my day (if I’m out and people don’t know me well) I get random pronouns all over the place as well as the occasional scary aggressive get-in-my-face “ARE YOU MALE OR FEMALE” types, and the “he… uh… she… uh… the person…” types, from people I’m actually forced to interact with.

One of the many ways that the way most people look at privilege is too simplistic. The invisibility I get as a disabled person – usually a bad thing – means I’m in less danger as a person who lacks gender. (And who has visible markers most people associate with both men and women.)

The kind of violence most trans and genderless people face just for wanting to piss, really scares me. I mean there’s situations where I’ve been unsafe because of gender stuff, but never over something I have to do every few hours. It also makes me wonder if I’ll someday end up the target of violence by someone transphobic enough to do that but not disablist enough to make me invisible when I head into bathrooms. o_O
