On the light rail train, glad it isn’t crowded (just me and 2 other people in this train car!), happy to be going home from work, and glad I work from home tomorrow. My job is awesome but my brain is really fried from being so busy lately. I’ve not had the energy for even my “usual” complement of social skills this week and have been annoyingly aware of trailing off, rambling, and not knowing how to answer “simple” questions. At least I’ve gotten to play with microscopes a lot. That’s always fun.

Also, randomly…I still haven’t figured out WTF it is that seems to compel people to select me of all people to either come up and randomly talk to about whatever, or ask about schedules, etc., on transit. I mean yeah there’s some confirmation bias in that maybe I don’t notice when other people get approached. But if I saw me on the bus I’d sure as heck leave me alone. In my personal “rules of etiquette”, approaching people who are wearing headphones is extremely rude unless (a) you’re trying to warn them that they’re on fire or about to be crapped on by a pigeon or something, or (b) you really need to ask someone something and there’s nobody around WITHOUT headphones to try.

But I have repeatedly had people come up and yell HEY! HEY! repeatedly, and even wave their hands back and forth across my face. No matter what headphones I’m wearing.

I also get the thing where regardless of other empty seats, people getting onto the bus will disproportionately choose to sit next to me, but I am pretty sure that’s just because I’m small. Meaning that if all the available free seats are next to *someone*, they’re going to go for the one that will preserve the most extra room for them. Which I can understand but still, I will often just get out of my seat and stand up rather than share due to experiences where people have literally refused to move and let me out before my stop (they move at the LAST POSSIBLE SECOND but not beforehand enough for me to get my stuff together, etc.).

I am glad transit exists because my employment options (and general errand-running options) would be pretty horribly limited without it, and I am aware these are probably “first world problems” to an extent but I nonetheless reserve the right to complain on the Internet about its more obnoxious aspects. :P

Wow your forehead is doing that thing I catch mine doing in photos of similar situations. I swear I’ll have wrinkles in that spot if I don’t already.
