Those first ten minutes.

For years I told doctors that for the first ten minutes of the day I had no pain in my face at all. They couldn’t account for it and kept insisting it was migraines even though I kept insisting I had two kinds of headache and this was not a migraine. (My migraine doctor attributes just about any symptom anywhere on my body to migraines.)

Then I got diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia and even Wikipedia knew that the pain is often gone for the first five or ten minutes of the day, even if it was never gone any other time. I really think that might have given them a clue. If the guy wasn’t dead set on calling everything a migraine. (Well, now he also calls some stuff chronic daily headache.)

Anyway that first ten minutes has just passed for me. But at least there’s a loudly purring cat snuggled up to my face.
