Would people just quit it already?

I’m sick of everyone and their dog running around like chickens with their heads cut off just because someone has found more people like me in the world. This is not an epidemic or a public health crisis and you don’t need to post the numbers on the autism tag as if you’re doing anyone at all a favor. You’re not. Just stop already. By now everyone has heard the numbers at least twenty times.

If you actually look at the data, the places that found more autistic people, found more autistic people with high IQs in particular. This means they’re just finding people who were traditionally unrecognized. (Actually, most of Kanner’s original patients had normal to high IQs. But things changed between then and now.) Tons of autistic people have already predicted numbers like this and higher. And yet some of you who are freaking out about these statistics are the same ones saying its overdiagnosed. Make up your minds.

This is actually a time period where I’m trying not to make posts about serious things. But you guys are really pissing me off. And I’m not easy to piss off these days. Yammering loudly on social media sites about how many autistic people exist does not actually do any tangible good to autistic people. So please FFS just STOP. You will make a lot of autistic people happy.
