UC Berkeley scientists have developed a system to capture visual activity in human brains and reconstruct it as digital video clips. Eventually, this process will allow you to record and reconstruct your own dreams on a computer screen.

I know this stuff is still in its infancy, but I am so interested in this.

Especially for people who think in pictures, but aren’t so great with words.

Or me, with my fucked-up vision. I want y’all to see what I see.

I find this terrifying. I want my thoughts to be for me and me alone unless i choose to share them.

OTOH I would love to record my dreams provided I had total control over who could see them.

I’d record the really weird dreams. The ones that are impossible to explain because they lack all normal frames of reference. The ones that nobody believes me about because they expect dreams to be at least somewhat like the real world.

I’d record my nightmares. To explain to people the effects of what I’ve been put through by assholes. To explain to professionals “this is what your ‘treatments’ do to us”.

I’d record my very best dreams so I could play them over and over again. And show people how magical they are.

That said I have my doubts about whether this could work. One theory about dreams are that they are random pieces of information that the brain then puts into some kind of comprehensible order. So would this record the random crap or would it record what we see after the rest of our brains are through with it?
