The moon forest: Walking to the car

after class, I saw a woman in one of those “Hover-Round” motorized wheelchairs.

She wasn’t old. She was maybe 30. Maybe. And it didn’t seem as though she had any sort of handicap(other than being mildly obese, but not to the point of it being crippling).
That being said,

Regarding looking for what the person’s disability is… Yeah exactly. And it’s something I’m sensitive about, having gained like… over 50 pounds since having to use a wheelchair and later having to be in bed all the time. I do generally look disabled in other ways, at least given people’s responses to me it seems that way. But still. It feels icky. And I know someone much bigger than me who only has a couple vertebrae left and one of them is dislocated – and yet because she’s really fat, people think that’s why she’s in the chair. And since fat is seen as a moral judgement in this culture, it just gets worse from there. And yeah – I have the exact same problem trying to dodge people out there when everyone is on their cellphone or something. If anything most disabled people I see have to be more aware of our environments, so we’re less likely to do the cellphone thing. (But when we do, trust someone to make a post like this about it.)
