Warning: mentions of abuse and sexual assault

For the day/night people, and because this is extremely important.

Can someone with the energy please text describe this?

Thank you thank you thank you. I have just printed out three copies.

One already posted prominently in my kitchen where staff hang out so they can’t ever say nobody told them these things were abusing power. (I once had someone else’s staff person flip out and scream insults at me at the top of her lungs and almost hit me when I told her that withholding dinner to her client because she was pissed off was an abuse of power. She called me paranoid and said no sane person would find her actions abusive. Then she hung out in the hall acting all stalkerish for hours. And she never gave a hint of this until we told her to quit rearranging huge portions of her apartment in deep and intense ways without asking. See, this is why I never let staff know they’re fired if I’ll ever again be alone with them. We expected resistance, which was why I was there, but not violence.)

Another to send to a disabled person I know whose staff people pull this shit all the time.

Another to give to my case manager in the hopes that she’ll use it to train people with.

This is one of the most concise but thorough ways of explaining that to disabled people the word “staff” means “someone with immense power over me”, that I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen every single thing on the list either myself or with friends or people I was advocating for.

One of my favorites not quite on the list is when I’m using a communication device that doesn’t talk out loud. And someone just point blank refuses to look at it. And that’s a stunt anyone can pull on me at any time I don’t have audio. So then I’m reduced to either screaming, resorting to actions, or putting up with whatever shit they give me. It doesn’t matter how mad you are, it’s an asshole move. Especially if you keep talking and forcing me to listen to you.
