Strong smelling hair oil

I didn’t think I minded the smell of amla oil last time I used it. But I had much less hair then, and I used it wrong and didn’t put enough in. Now the smell seems really strong. But I need to leave it in for awhile because my hair has been super-dry and matted to the point where even I’m bothered by it. (The curliest part, under the surface in the back, is basically one big mat, and the rest isn’t great either.) And I don’t usually care that much about what my hair is doing.
