felis corvus: Brodie = my hero

feliscorvus:

(Brodie being one of the excellent cats I share a home with).

For some reason I find it really annoying when tiny bugs flit around near my head. And some got into the house this afternoon due to it being very warm and me and Matt going in and out the doors a lot for yardwork-related reasons. And…

Weirdly enough I sometimes do have that reaction time. But it’s totally outside my control. Like once at my shrink. There was a coke can on the table. And it fell off. Across the room. And somehow I grabbed it before it had even tipped two inches.

And that was while I was on twice the toxic dose of a neuroleptic that seriously impaired voluntary movement. So my shrink was almost freaked out how fast I did it. I was also excellent at whack-a-mole during that time period because it relied on the same involuntary cuing stuff.

To this day my movement disorder can work so I can sometimes not move at all. Except if something cues me just right I’ll be faster than most people. I used to kick ass at ping pong and badminton that way. (Well I only played badminton once but I was instantly able to beat a bunch of athletic staff people. Even after they quit holding back on me and started to look desperate.) Usually what cues me best are small objects moving at… actually the same speed cats instinctively attack when something moves that way. Interesting.
