This is how the new strings sound. They’re greatly preferable to strings that are older than I am and falling apart. But they’re also greatly preferable to the kind of strings I had in the first place, which were some kind of basic metal stuff. I am glad they helped me find something that fit the general tone of this violin better.

And I’m so glad they based my choice of string and other equipment on my hearing, rather than my proficiency at playing. Because I was prepared to be told that since I’m a… well I’m not a beginner but I am sort of starting over… that then I couldn’t possibly hear what the violin sounded like and needed just the same type of basic strings I already had. When really I’m far better at knowing what it sounds like than at playing it, and I’d far rather it sound exactly how I want it to sound (and how the violin itself wants to sound of course). They said that from the detail I put into talking about the sound they pretty much knew not to have that reaction to me, so that’s good.
