Monkeys who steal alcohol and get drunk.

One thing I saw traces of in this video, although they never said it outright, was this pattern I have seen with humans who study animals and disabled humans. Which is this idea that animals, and some disabled humans, don’t have all that pesky cultural and cognitive stuff that gets in the way of studying a phenomenon in its “pure” form. So they will study animals, or autistic people, as if we are untouched by the societies that “contaminate” evidence when they study it in nondisabled humans. Really annoying.

But still an interesting video. Apparently the percentages of monkeys who don’t drink, drink moderately, and drink to excess, match the percentages in humans. This interests me because my brother and I are teetotalers in a family that has produced a number of problem drinkers. We both loathe the smell of the stuff. And I don’t like being around drunk people because they don’t tend to have good boundaries at all. (That made the art opening from hell, that much more hellish. It felt like people were overlapping with my insides.)
