➸ Lost in my Mind TARDIS: agirlcalledhome: goldenheartedrose: mybedshapedshadow: aspiesinger:...
You know what’s interesting?
Basically every autistic person I’ve known has been a Slytherin.
Coincidence? I think not.
I’m in…
Hufflepuff here. Some people would doubtless imagine me as a Gryffindor, but people in Hufflepuff can have similar characteristics to any other house, it’s mostly a matter of what our core values are. (Wearing a Hufflepuff pin constantly on whatever shirt I’m wearing.)
I haven’t tested into Pottermore, but I’m fairly sure I’d be either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.
Pottermore put me in Gryffindor, which was kind of a surprise. I usually get Ravenclaw in sorting quiz things, though granted most of those seem to put anyone who answers in the affirmative to things like “are you an introvert?” and “do you like to read books?” there. I would actually be fine with any house except Slytherin. Not that Slytherins are necessarily bad people, it’s more that I just don’t have that level/type of ambition. I mean of course I have goals, but, like, for example, in a workplace setting I’d much rather have a low-prestige job I liked and found really interesting than a higher-prestige job involving lots of interpersonal politics. I don’t really care about prestige/status at all and that seems very unSlytherin, IMO.
Yes—I’m definitely ambitious, but it’s not for status or power or influence. Which are not wrong things to want, necessarily, and I know good people who would probably be Slytherins. It’s just not how I actually work…I don’t even really grasp how people work in those ways.
I think people probably tend to peg me as Ravenclaw, because I grew up mostly distinguished for being “smart.” But it’s not what I value most about myself.
Yeah I also know (or know of) a few decent folks who are nonetheless Slytherinish. Weirdly enough, one of these individuals is one of my *cats*. And she’s actually a good example, species notwithstanding, of how someone can have Slytherin characteristics without that implying bad ethics or character.
Nikki is one of the most ethical people I know, of any species. Her sense of justice is strong and utterly unbiased — if she were human she’d probably be one of those people who wasn’t especially widely *liked*, but who others would approach when they needed to get the un-sugarcoated truth about whatever issue was at hand. She just has this way of carrying herself and interacting with everyone and everything around her that manages to draw out and expose any type of pretense or artificiality that could be going on.
She’s also very, very driven, and it’s clear from her interactions with the other cats that status is valuable to her for whatever reason. I don’t entirely understand WHY it’s valuable to her, as my own mind doesn’t really work that way, but my guess is that it has something to do with a need to have her environment organized in certain ways. She’s not horribly nasty to the other cats or anything, she just likes to make sure they know where they stand and where she stands.
Toward this end, she *demands* a certain level of deference and politeness from anyone who expresses any interest in even getting near her. Which is probably why Brodie (one of my younger male cats here) gets along with her so well — he’s a born diplomat, at least where other cats are concerned, and has treated her with nothing less than impeccable cat-manners since she arrived). She’s like this with both cats and humans.
She doesn’t *greet* guests when they arrive at the house; she *inspects* them, and won’t curl up in your lap and purr until she’s satisfied herself that you’re okay according to her standards AND that it’s okay to let her guard down partially (she pretty much never lets it down all the way, at least not for more than a short while).
[And of course there’s the fact that she *is* literally a “pure-blood”, being a Siamese that my parents originally got from a (small scale) breeder. I don’t think that figures into her personality very much, as I’ve met a handful of mixed-ancestry cats very similar to her in temperament, but still, if you go by the “Slytherins must be pure-blood” canon thing it fits. :P]
Of course I realize the above could almost just as easily describe, say, certain variants of Gryffindor. And Fey strikes me as leaning more in the Gryffindor direction somehow, and she’s a lot like Nikki temperament-wise. There’s just this…something about Nikki that makes me think she’d not only be able to completely hold her own in Slytherin, but that she’d find it…useful to be there. If that makes any sense at all.
I can totally see Nikki in Slytherin. And Fey in Gryffindor. Coraline probably Ravenclaw. Brodie seems very Hufflepuff. And I don’t know where Shadow would go – not likely Slytherin or Ravenclaw though.
