I kind of hate when “autism experts” talk about how girls’ experiences with autism were apparently so much easier, because we had the privilege of being taken under the wing of a “mothering” little girl who helped us learn how to “fit in” in social situations. See, I remember those “mothering”…

Yeah I got “taken under the wing” of a series of bullies, budding sociopaths, and other ~really pleasant~ people. I know people who got the real thing and it worked well but I know far more people who ended up like me.

ETA: The only mothering-like relationship I’ve had with a non family member is another autistic person who taught me how to survive in the real world when my parents had no clue how to do so.
