This deadly myth that if you do everything right you won’t get sick.

Ok, well just eat whatever, eat loads of cheese everyday. See how your body reacts. While ‘juice fasting’ or reiki, or whatever else may not cure your ‘uncurable disease’, I’m almost certain it will make it much easier for your body to cope with it.

Just saying: Don’t be so damn pessimistic. Ever heard of ‘mind over matter’? It’s not just a statement, it’s Quantum Physics.

1. Don’t put incurable disease in scare quotes, as if it’s a lie that it is incurable. Currently, my disease has no cure, just management. Maybe in the future it will, but considering that my disease mostly affects women (/those perceived as women) and POC, research on a cure is pretty fucken lacking.

2. Fuck you for assuming that because I side-eye juice fasting and reiki that I have certain eating habits like “eating a lot of cheese.” Even if I did, it’s none of your fucking business what I eat or how I treat MY OWN FUCKING BODY.

3. Telling people that they can will their body into health is a terrible and dangerous thing to do. You aren’t a healthcare professional and if anyone believes your bullshit it can put them in some serious shit. I’d suggest you STFU before you are responsible for someone’s death.

4. Fuck off.

Seconded on all that shit. Plus:

Read about Modern Physics Abuse Syndrome. Quantum physics has fuck all to do with mind over matter. And mind over matter isn’t real. Believe it or not, the vast majority of chronic illness has nothing to do with choices people make over our health.

Also. I know what y'all are really doing, don’t think I don’t. You’re scared of ever getting sick. Really sick. In a way you can’t cure. So you convince yourself that if you just eat the right things, think the right way, do everything right, you’ll be healthy. And you’ve convinced yourself that healthy people are people who do everything right and sick people must be eating a ton of cheese or full of negativity or some other bullshit.

News flash: That doesn’t work for the vast majority of things. Not only doesn’t it work. It’s offensive. Not only is it offensive. It kills people. So your selfish need to quell your fears and pretend you have control over all possible illnesses, is harming and even killing people with chronic illness or disabilities. Some of us try your treatments. Some of us die because we didn’t seek proper treatment and instead did some kind of bullshit fad cure. Some of us die from the bullshit cure itself.

How do I know this harms and kills people? My mother attempted to take me to quack doctors who believed shit like this. And not only did their prescribed treatments leave me malnourished and severely ill. Not only did the doctors say my near-hospitalization-level illness was a sign that I was being healed. But they missed a disease that almost killed me later. This happens all the time to people who believe this shit whether they go to a quack over it or not. Oh and I acquired orthorexia, an eating disorder that causes a person to restrict their diet more and more in the name of health or spirituality until they are not getting proper nutrients. I still struggle with this eating disorder 13 years later.

Oh and that’s besides the 10+ years I spent trying to act like I totally controlled my reality and therefore could make my progressive movement disorder go away. This was one of the ideas that contributed to several suicide attempts when I felt so guilty for not being able to make it go away, that I might as well not exist. That’s another way this stuff can kill.

And yes I have an incurable illness. Hell, I have at least one illness that not only doesn’t have a treatment yet, it doesn’t even have a name. And I really hate it when people on the Internet have all the answers when they don’t even know what disease you have let alone what to do about it. But it’s people like this who think you can even ward off cancer by the right attitude and diet. Which I find offensive given the family members who have gotten cancer in recent years.

Oh and it’s likely that my diet is healthier than yours is. Everyone who actually sees what I eat comments “wow, that’s really healthy”. Not that it should be any of your fucking business. It’s really hard to do that on food stamps, too. But I eat as healthy as I can, no longer eat junk food because it’s too expensive and clogged arteries run in my family, etc. and it doesn’t affect my chronic illness one whit. The only foods that affect my chronic illness are things that affect the muscular energy cycle – like carnitine. And they still don’t give me the ability to get out of bed for long.

Of course the joke will be on you once you become disabled or chronically ill and nothing you do stops it. Not that it’s a very funny joke. But disability happens to pretty much everyone who doesn’t die young. So it will be you someday. And if you try to “mind over matter” it, you will either delude yourself, or realize it doesn’t do a fucking thing.

And yes – your views are completely disgusting, self-centered, and self-congratulatory. Not to mention deadly. So quit walking up to disabled people and acting like we are only like this because we didn’t do the right stuff to avoid it. If anyone dies because of your viewpoints I hope you have enough conscience to feel bad about it. Because people get sicker and die all the time because somebody told them to mind over matter everything away. You think your viewpoint is a magic shield protecting you from illness but it’s actually a dagger for stabbing disabled people in the back.

P.S. I am neither negative nor downtrodden. I just have a proper angry response to people giving other people unsolicited health advice that actually often kills people. Learn the difference.
