Macs vs. PC question

allies-person:

For folks which have used both Macs and PCs, particularly laptops: Is the difference between them as big as the Steve Jobs PR machine would have you believe?

I’ve never looked at the PR so I don’t know. But I know my MacBook Pro is hands down the most user-friendly computer I’ve ever owned. Given some of my physical and cognitive limitations, that makes the difference between whether I can use it at all.

That’s also why I have an iPod Touch and an iPad instead of other stuff that looks interesting but I might never be able to use. In theory I can’t stand Apple as a corporation, but I end up using their products because they put so very much effort into ease of use that I can do things I could never do on my Linux box. (And I love my Linux box but I’ve barely touched it since getting my laptop.)

That’s me though. I can’t speak for other people, although I have a friend who I suspect feels similar. It’s just, with my movement disorder especially, any tiny bit of user-unfriendliness gets magnified into a huge barrier. And that is an area Apple seems to put a lot of time into, however shitty they are as a corporation. I find Windows PCs well-nigh unusable. And Linux PCs semi-usable. By comparison.
